Green & Clean is not only about chemical solutions, but about the many advantages Professional Car Washes can offer to today’s environmentally concerned consumer. Our goal is to educate operators and their customers about environmental issues and concerns. Environmental accountability is not just about chemistry. It is a total view of professional car washing. We have the opportunity to be an environmentally conscious industry. We need to communicate our efforts to the car wash consumer and the communities we service.
Professional Car Washing
There are many environmental advantages to having your vehicle washed professionally. First and foremost the water, chemical, oil and dirt are properly processed through the sanitary sewer system. Separators in the car wash allow for the proper processing and disposal of most dirt and oil. Driveway washing sends dirt, oils and chemicals into the storm water system unprocessed and into our lakes and tributaries. This has a detrimental effect on our environment and our drinking water supply. In addition, many professional operators use water reclaim systems to further reduce unnecessary water consumption.
Chemistry
Diamond Shine started evaluating its chemistry several years ago. All NPE’s (Nonyl Phenol Ethoxylates) which are used as wetting agents and foamers were replaced with approved environmentally friendly products. These include natural renewable surfactants that are corn, coconut, and vegetable oil based. Oil free water soluble hydraulic replacement products have been available for years. We are offering Phosphate replacements in many of our traditional products as well as replacing non biodegradable chelating agents.
This is an evolving process. Diamond Shine is committed to the research and development of premium products using chemistry to improve its solutions and reduce environmental impact.
Packaging
Wherever possible, Diamond Shine uses recyclable drum packaging. We use certified drum reconditioning companies to insure quality. We pick up drums directly at washes or through our distributors who have dedicated programs. Hyper concentrated products are another way we are reducing landfill waste and environmental impact.
Utility Management
Diamond Shine representatives offer different ideas for customers to reduce water usage and improve utility management. Regularly replacing nozzles reduces water consumption and improves cleaning. Optimizing line speeds improves efficiency while reducing utilities and labor. Not only is this better for the environment, but also helps reduce operating costs.
